ruins-in-puerto-vallarta

¨Guachimontones, home of the Tehuchitlan tribe,¨  (archaeological site).

350 B.C. to 350 A.C.

These are some of the ruins and pre-hispanic native findings in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Nayarit and surrounding areas.

These are pyramids that were round. In honor of the god of the wind, ¨Ehecatl¨.

Located near the famous city of Tequila.

Guided tours available if you are staying in Puerto Vallarta.

More of what is found locally, ¨shafted tombs¨, in states like Jalisco, Nayarit, Colima and Michoacan. Shafted tombs consisted of a shaft of up to 50ft deep and the chamber could be as big as a pyramid.

Many of the sculptures found in museums were found buried inside these tombs.

In pre-hispanic times, this area was known as ¨the Obsidian Land¨. We are located on a neo-volcanic belt that goes across Mexico. We find lots of lava rock and the lava that went in the water turned into obsidian. Obsidian was used for making arrow heads and used on the Macuahuitl used by the Aztecs.

In this state it is common to find native clay. Some still painted with charcoal or oxide. Some  with patterns for decoration and beautiful handcrafted stamping can still be appreciated.

The sculptures, hammer rocks in the images are found in the museum in San Sebastian town.

Guided tours are available year round including Guadalajara overnight.
